Tseshaht First Nation

Tseshaht First Nation is a vibrant and self-determining Nuu-chah-nulth community located on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Their territory includes the entire Alberni Valley, along the Alberni Inlet to the Broken Group Island and out to sea. Formed through amalgamation, Tseshaht absorbed the hiikuułʔatḥ and the ḥačaaʔatḥ who brought their lands with them as well as the once independent territories of the našɁasɁatḥ, maqƛiiʔatḥ, c̓uumaʕasatḥ and the original c̓išaaʔatḥ. The Nation carries forward a proud legacy of stewardship, trade, and cultural strength rooted in its territory.

With ancestral ties to the land and sea, the Tseshaht are descendants of expert whalers and knowledge holders. As active members of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council, the Nation continues to advocate for collective strength and innovation grounded in traditional values and guided by principles of sustainability and respect for their territory.

Tseshaht’s leadership is defined not only by resilience but by a forward-looking commitment to self-determined growth, community well-being, and the protection of future generations. Their enduring connection to the land shapes both their identity and their vision for a prosperous, balanced, and sovereign future.
